2013 Sets New Records for Tourism in Bulgaria

28.10.2013 - The current year will mark a new record break for the Bulgarian tourism industry, according to the Institute for Analyses and Research. Based on realized income so far and bookings and prognoses until January 2014, 2013 will be the first year ever in which the income from tourism will be more than 3 billion euro.

Last year the total income was close to this psychological limit, but did not exceed it - 2,9 million euro. There is a trend in the recent years, marking a fast increase and sector expansion - Bulgaria is becoming a recognizable vacation spot and its beauties are finally getting revealed.

So far this year there have been more than 900 million leva income only in the accommodation part of people's vacations. 600 of them come from foreigners. In total there will be 9 million foreigners having visited Bulgaria during 2013 until the end of the year. The biggest increase is of tourists from Russia and Ukraine, while there has also been a significant development with Israeli, Dutch and German tourists.

According to Rumen Draganov, the director of the Institute, this increase is due to 3 factors: the completion of the new highway, allowing people from Sofia to reach Burgas (respectively Sunny Beach) in a little more than 3 hours; the development of the hotel base and the development of alternative tourism offers.

We are glad to have contributed to these statistics with our development of gay tourism. We hope to continue the trend for next year too!
